Hi, I’m Neil – born and bred in Ballater. I’ve always had a love for this village and its close-knit community. The story of The Barrel is personal to me. I worked behind the bar here when I was just 18, and years later, in 2005, I returned to buy the very same pub I’d once pulled pints in.
With over 20 years of experience in hospitality, my goal has always been simple: create a place that feels like home for locals and visitors alike, whether they’re stopping by the restaurant, relaxing in the function room, or enjoying our friendly hotel atmosphere.
Together with my family, we’ve poured our hearts into making The Barrel a place full of character, charm, and genuine Scottish hospitality.
We offer five cosy rooms, perfect for a peaceful night’s sleep after a day exploring the Cairngorms, strolling the River Dee, or visiting the Royal Estate at Balmoral.
